I had been working on another situation the last couple of months and didn't want to say anything in case it didn't work out. I have a very nice friend who offered to lend me her Tevis horse (mare......it seems I am destined to have mares in my future) who had amazing recoveries at this last Tevis. It turned out that I needed to have more control to do such a race which included having her live at our place but the situation wasn't to be.
My friend Donna told me the same night I made the decision not to pursue this mare and said that maybe another horse would come up. Like I need another one. Ha! While I was trying to work out details with the first mare, Janine had called me to check up on me. Little did I know she had a gorgeous Khemistreetu daughter up her sleeve but said nothing to me. Last week I took a walk on my training hill that Ali'i and I had spent so many hours on and at the bottom she called. I whined and said I REALLY missed riding the hill (and having a goal which I didn't seem to have) and she told me about "Bella Ba" or "BeBe". (Khemistreetu x VR Pattiara. Bella Ba is a great-grandaughter of Bask on dam's side.)
So here she is. In my pasture. Vet checked out and shoes taken off. She's frickin' BEAUTIFUL!!
I rode her 2 days ago at Folsom Lake, which isn't my favorite place to ride, mainly because every time I've gone there with Ali'i he's been a dorkus. But Janine told me it would show me how this horse really is. She was awesome. Trailered, tied, cars, rocks, turkeys......not a concern. She also was originally in the trailer with a MEAN Morgan mare that decided to have a bucking/kicking fit next to poor BeBe and BeBe dealt with that with flying colors. (That ucky mare stayed home. I could not be a horse trainer!)
So, she's 16 (June 27th, the day after Tirzah's birthday), did a 50 in '03 I think, had two babies, and was ridden this last year infrequently by someone who apparently backed out of a deal to purchase her. Janine had put a lot of training on her & can ride her with just a rope around her neck. I plan on having some lessons with her to learn what her cues are, but so far she was very easy to ride, and very forward. A whole different ride than Ali'i and as much as I love him, he's small and feels very different. A little bouncy. She's a very big mare, I'd guess easily 15.2 or so, but very comfortable.
I am sooooooooo excited!!! We'll start training slowly this next week if it's not raining. I'll get more photos later with her blanket off. Luckily I bought this blanket from Donna a few months ago....it used to be Vinita's. It fits her great!
I ALSO have to mention how wonderful Tony is. I love him. He originally called BeBe an "old nag" because that's the kind of crap he likes to say to ruffle my feathers, but he ultimately trusts me....he has not seen her yet. He'll be home in a bit and it's pouring here!! He said "Am I going to have to buy you a pink headstall now for your new mare?". He indulges me. I can't complain!!! He's going to love her because I love her......awwwhhhhhhhh........what a good life!
