My life has taken on the "Post 'Tevis No Start' Days of the End of Summer". I am riding, but not like I was with Ali'i. Sabi's probably ok with that, though he is damn cute to ride. I love that horse. I love Ali'i. Oh, and I love Cardiff. Have I mentioned that before???? Anyway.........I have found this new interest in cooking, probably because I hate the idea of eating packaged junk so here I am. It doesn't hurt to have a really pretty kitchen with views on 3 sides. I buy food, sometimes with a recipe in mind, and sometimes not. If I don't know what to do with eggplant (and who in their right mind really knows that?) I look up recipes on the internet. My little MacBook. I love it. Tonight I'm making chicken soup from scratch (except the noodles...and I also didn't hack the head off of the chicken), but I am very excited about it. It looks yummy. So, I boil, I cut, I cook, and like always, the recipe always says it will take 10 minutes prep time and I'm on.......3 hours and I'm still prepping. That's when I break out the Merlot in my most favorite wine glass. Reminds me of my other life. I need that sometimes.
The cool thing about the internet, that our mothers didn't have, nor did we really have 10 years ago (or less) was Google....."fresh vs dried parsley. How much????" This is just so bitchen!!! Or, "what to use instead of thyme" (I thought I had it). Or, (unrelated to cooking, planning a horse camping trip at the 1/2 way point with my best friend Lori this morning. She lives in KY. 1/2 point? Custer, S.D.) Anyway, I got more serious when I foraged those berries a few weeks ago. The Indian in me burst thru my homemade moccasins. I think I'll plant an herb garden. Would that be the best to just go in your yard and pick your own (non-irradiated) herbs???? Or hack the head off of an free-ranging chicken??? (Ok, T could do that....) Is that not cool?? Real food.
Off to scoop the chicken bones out of the pot and continue cooking!!
